A Life Lesson From My Dogs

The joy of the Lord. I have heard that before, I have seen it before but I realized today that I need to let the joy of the Lord be the strength of my life, the anthem of my day.

As I was walking my dogs on this beautiful autumn day in Texas I passed a park and something within me inspired me to let them play. I took them to the play ground, and took them down the slide (they love slides). As River, the oldest, got to the bottom of the slide she took off running in circles with the happiest look on her face. She could not contain her JOY of being free, free to run in happy circles. In my hand I could feel the anticipation in Remi’s leash of wanting to participate in this freeing joy.  River came running up as if to say “ Okay, you have some of this joy”, I picked up River’s leash and let Remi go. She did the same as her sister, ran circles little and first and then bigger and bigger ones. They were so happy to be free and show it.

I began to think of me, do I run (or walk) with Joy and do I show the joy of the Lord in my  life like my girls show their happy giddy joy in being free?  Not only that, I need to share my joy like River did. I need to  allow God’s joy to flood my life everyday like a simple freedom run in the playground brings joy to River and Remi.
